So, I've been watching/listening to as much Muse related things as i can lately.
Surprise, ya?
Anyway, last year when they were touring I gave them a mixed CD of David Bowie stuff.
I had heard them host a radio show earlier that year and played Space Oddity and Matthew claimed he hadn't heard Bowie before. i thought that odd, so i made them a mixed CD which over the next few days they said they had appreciated, at least as for something to listen to that was different on the bus.
OK, fast forward to now.
I've read and heard now several times both Matt and Dom talking about the Bowie influence. I just watched a snippet of them on MTV2 introducing videos and they were introducing a Bowie video and said: "when we were making the album we met David Bowie and some of his earlier material was an inspiration, well this particular song, was an inspiration for one of the songs on our new album, Invincible, it's kinda an unrealistic song about hope, and almost fantasicble dream about togetherness, I think he sums it up very well in this song called Heroes"
OK, first of all that's one of my favorite songs on the new CD - now I know why ;)
Heroes is, hands down, my favorite David Bowie song.
But really, can I be so bold as to say, or rather think, that little old me and my small, yet bold, gesture of making a cd of some awesome music by Bowie (and I think as I gave it to matt i told him that "he should really know who Bowie is") could have helped facilitate this influence?
This is the shit that keeps me up at night.....
I used to be e-friends with this woman last year who was quite an inspiration to me as well. She said after that encounter with Matt (and really the whole Muse Odyssey I went on) perhaps I was somehow a Muse to Muse and that's why I kept "running" into them.
At least now I feel a little less like a groupie and more like a peer to them, which is all I ever wanted to be.
But, can I actually discuss this with anyone? or will everyone think I'm crazy for even suggesting such a thing? I mean, they are humans after all. People get inspiration from everywhere and they certainly don't live in a box. Just because they're like one of the biggest bands in the world doesn't mean a fan can't help them out - right?
Now, I'm just rambling...
