My Own Space Dementia

OK fair warning:

I went back to my parents house in Ann Arbor this weekend and finally made the family go through some boxes of old photos which i've been trying to do the last 3 times i was there. It was awesome - i got to hear new stories about my parents and grandparents and, of course, my brother and I's childhood.

My mom reluctantly let me take some of the photos, maybe 1/4 of the pile, to scan in and reprint. So I am giving anyone who reads my journal fair warning that there may be a deluge of old school pictures coming your way in the next week.

I'll start lj cutting them after this post and i'll make sure the title reflects what's in the post.

First, this picture, i think about a lot.
I always knew it existed but never knew where it was.
Imagine my delight when it was in the pile!!!!
I have scanned it in so I can print it out 8x10 and frame :)

That's my grandma - my mom's mom who died in October 2003.
Coincidentally the night of the magnificent Majestic Detroit Fischerspooner show.

I like to think i take after her - she was always very young for her age - she even went back to Brown University and got a bachelors degree when she was 50! When i was a kid we used to do yoga together and dance in the living room - that's what i remember most about her - doing fun and active stuff like that.

And to tell you the truth, in the last year on my weight loss and getting healthy journey I have probably thought about her at least once a week and hoped that where ever she is looking at me that she's proud. She was a dietician in the 70s-80s and the last time i saw her alive in the hospice she made me promise to eat better and exercise. Wow, that's a heavy memory.

On a lighter note - that's a Commodore Pet computer! AND my dad still has it in the attic, but we didn't plug it in to see if it works and if it did the tape would probably be broken at this point - it ran on tape not disks.
I have no idea what i was doing there, but i sure look mesmerized :)

AND look at the calculator on top!
And the typewriter in the back - i sooooo used to type away at that.
type song lyrics mostly.
U2 an Depeche Mode - even back then!
Well not back then when the photo was taken, but back then in the early 80s.
Good lord.
